It was very interesting that the editorial titled “The disaster that is HealthCare.gov,” published Nov. 3, was prefaced by an anecdote about former President George W. Bush and the government’s poor performance handling the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

If my memory serves me correctly, that storm was eight years ago and the only similarity between Katrina, an act-of-God disaster, and HealthCare.gov, a man-made disaster, is the word “disaster.”

If the editors’ intent was to take a swipe at Bush, the Katrina anecdote would have been more aptly compared to Hurricane Sandy, given the editorial cartoon abutting the editorial by Dave Granlund. At least then you are comparing two natural disasters that both brought death and destruction.

If you wanted to grade both presidents handling of each respective natural disaster, I would say they both deserve an F, with an F-minus going to President Obama because he should have learned from Bush’s missteps.

As for the man-made disaster called HealthCare.gov, Obama owns that one by himself.

Editors Rex Rhoades and Judith Meyer would be better served by keeping their biases in check. Citing Bush’s failings made them look petty and delusional.

Mother Nature in all her fury has proven time and again that man has no control over her whims. Healthcare.gov is a storm three years in the making, manifested by the whims of President Obama and company.

George W. Bush had nothing to do with it.
