RANGELEY — Selectmen held an executive session Monday night to discuss a contract for Town Manager Tiki White.
Town Clerk Ethna Thompson alerted selectmen Monday that White was not legally in office.
The board passed Selectman Pam White’s motion to extend White’s appointment until the next meeting, Nov. 19, while it works on a developing a contract.
White was appointed Sept. 23, nearly two months after being named acting town manager.
Also Monday, the board held a brief public hearing for liquor license and special entertainment permit applications for the Rangeley Inn, represented by Travis Ferland from Rangeley Hospitality Inc.
Ferland wants the license to include all areas of the property, including the restaurant, ballroom, room service and outdoor events. He said his goal is to have the inn’s pub operational by Dec. 16. Selectmen unanimously approved both applications.
Judy Morton of the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce reported the chamber has 9,200 Facebook friends, 12 new chamber members and seasonal videos, which will be posted on the chamber’s new YouTube channel.
Tiki White announced Sandy River Recycling will outline three new recycling plans to the town early next year.
The oversized bulky waste buildings at the transfer station were completed Oct. 17. Selectman Gary Shaffer suggested they be capped with aluminum to avoid painting.
The Fire Department reported an excellent Safety Day at Rangeley Lakes Regional School for grades kindergarten to four, with a visit from Smokey Bear, and a training exercise that included rescuing a downed firefighter and a live burn.
A matching grant from the Maine Forest Service was approved to buy additional containers of foam and four new pagers for the department.
The board unanimously approved the appointment of Donald Nuttall to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Approval of a four-year payment plan for the Fire Department’s aerial truck will reduce annual payments for the plantations, though it will require higher fees for services in the unorganized territories.
State reimbursement for the Carry Road construction project is expected within two weeks.
Six people have shown interest in serving on a cemetery committee. Shaffer suggested they speak to selectmen to outline their interests and suggested duties. The original Cemetery Committee was formed in the early 1900s and disbanded in the 1970s.
