AUGUSTA (AP) — Police say the driver of a pickup truck that rear-ended a school bus in Augusta has died, but no one on the bus was hurt.

Police Lt. Christopher Massey says the truck driven by 60-year-old Herbert LeBreton, of Orono, struck the rear of the bus at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday and got wedged underneath. LeBreton was trapped in the wreckage for about 50 minutes. After he was freed, he was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he later died of his injuries.

Three high school students and a driver were on the bus, which was stopped in traffic when it was struck.

It’s unclear why LeBreton’s truck struck the bus and the accident remains under investigation.
