FARMINGTON — Guitar, banjo and vocal harmonies combine Saturday when Garrett Soucy and his band, Coloradas, present a benefit concert for the first homeless shelter in Franklin County.
Hosted by Summit Faith Community in connection with Western Maine Homeless Outreach, the concert begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Admission is by donation, Ryan Goding, pastor of Summit Faith, said Thursday.
Donations, large or small, will all help “open the first homeless shelter of its kind in Western Maine,” he said in a release.
“The mission of Western Maine Homeless Outreach is to provide emergency shelter to homeless families from Western Maine,” he said. “Our goal is to transform futures by strengthening families to become self-sustaining.”
Community volunteers, representatives from several agencies and local pastors have worked throughout the summer to start the new shelter housed at the Living Waters Assembly of God Church on Wilton Road.
They have strived to meet a Nov. 1 opening date and continue to fundraise to meet the local need. Calls for space in the shelter have been coming in daily — long before the facility’s opening.
Soucy is a coastal-Maine musician, Goding said, formerly part of the band, Tree By Leaf. The music of singer-songwriter Soucy appeals to a wide audience, Goding said.
“It’s great music,” Goding said. “He’s really talented.”
All are welcome, he said.
