BETHEL — The West Parish Congregational Church will host a community harvest supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in a continued effort to raise money for the Smile Fund.

The Smile Fund, according to resident Jane Chandler, is a program that “earmarks adults who are unable to find employment or are already working and in need of dentures or dental care.”

“MaineCare and many insurances do not cover the cost of dentures,” Chandler said. “In order to keep the Smile Fund program going, we need to raise more funds.”

The Smile Fund primarily aids people in SAD 44, which includes the towns of Andover, Bethel, Gilead, Greenwood, Newry and Woodstock, and has helped 58 people receive dentures or dental care in the last 10 years.

The community harvest supper will feature ham, baked beans, scalloped potatoes, homemade biscuits and rolls, salads and homemade pies.

Chandler said a $10 donation for the meal is suggested, though people can donate whatever they can.

“This is our major fall fundraiser,” she said. “It’s a very important program that’s meeting a need that our health care just isn’t meeting.”
