Everything in moderation. Isn’t that what we are taught? It is OK to eat food with high calories as long as you don’t overdo it. Similarly, it is OK to have a drink or two as long as you know your limit.

Then shouldn’t moderation be the same for politics?

The voting public continues to see the failure of Congress and has lost faith in the system, yet we continue to send more party loyalists to Washington. If we really want Congress to work, we must vote for those in the center.

We won’t fix Congress by sending more hard-line Democrats or hard-line Republicans to Washington in an attempt to counter what the other party is doing. We should be all be voting for moderates who can look at an issue objectively and discuss it based upon the merits of the bill, not the “D” or “R” that follows their name.

The more we send extremists on either side of the aisle to represent us, the more we are setting Congress up for failure.

There is a much higher likelihood that those slightly left or right of center can compromise than people on the far left or far right. And if we all work together to vote moderates into office, we can put the political brinkmanship to rest and enjoy the political moderation that will restore faith in our political system.
