AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine youth are getting an early chance to bag a deer.

Saturday is the special day where Maine youth from 10 to 16 years old get to go hunting a week before other Maine residents. Doug Rafferty from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries says they must be accompanied by an adult.

Next Saturday hunting will be reserved for Maine residents. The deer-hunting season for any hunter opens Nov. 4.
