MEXICO — The River Valley Recreation Center is hosting its second annual Haunted Halloween Walk from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and 26.

The walk, which will be held at the River Valley Recreation Center, was a huge hit last year, according to Amanda Hamner, a member of the River Valley Recreation Board.

“The walk was really popular last year, and this year, we’ve decided to change up the theme,” she said. “Last year, we did a ‘high school massacre’ theme, which didn’t sit well with some of the residents, so this year, we decided to do a ‘killer carn-evil’ theme.

“Basically, we’ll take you on a walk through a haunted carnival, which will be set up inside the Recreation Center,” Hamner said. “When you get there, you get to experience a carnival midway. There will be games, attractions and freaky sideshows, all of which are organized by volunteers. I can say this much: if you’re scared of clowns, you might want to prepare yourself.”

The tours will begin at 7 p.m. and will cost $5 at the door.

Hamner said the River Valley Recreation Board has come up with a more efficient way of running the walk that ensures everyone is staying busy.

“The walk, which starts on the third floor of the Recreation Center and goes down into the basement, goes in time slots, and it’s first come, first served,” Hamner said. “We have different games set up in the gymnasium for the kids to play while they wait to go on the walk. The waiting should be better than last year.”

Hamner praised the rest of the River Valley Recreation Board and the rest of the volunteers helping out with the Halloween Walk.

“I’m telling you, we had some tremendous volunteers stepping up to the plate this year,” she said. “This is the reason that we all joined the board: to take on different projects and give back to the community.”
