RUMFORD — The River Valley Rotary Club helped six homeowners prepare for cold weather by winterizing their houses Saturday.
Members delivered applications to towns in the River Valley for senior citizens to pick up, President Roger Whitehouse said.
“The applications give us an idea of who needs the most help, in terms of getting their house prepared for winter,” he said. “Depending on how many volunteers we have in a given year, we’ll visit the houses we select.”
Whitehouse said, “We had one woman with cancer that we visited. She said she was very appreciative. We have a couple of retirees that weren’t able to do the work themselves.”
Club members put plastic over windows and caulked areas where cold air was getting into the house, he said.
It was the fourth year the club has helped winterize homes, he said. Jane Bubar was in charge of the project.
“For all of us at the Rotary Club, we do things like this to help support our community,” Whitehouse said. “We try to do as much as we can.”
