LIVERMORE FALLS — A Winthrop company won the contract to provide propane for the highway garage’s new furnace.

Selectmen voted Monday to go with Winthrop Fuel Co., Inc. at a fixed price of $1.682 per gallon. That price includes the tank and setup, Town Manager Kristal Flagg told the board.

Public Works Department foreman Bill Nichols collected quotes from various companies, she said.

Other companies submitting bids were:

* Dead River Co. at 25 cents over rack price for a total of $1.694 per gallon. The company wanted a three-year commitment, Nichols said.

* Blanchard’s Cash Fuel in Turner, $1.78 per gallon.

* Group Adams Propane Services of Livermore Falls with two bids. One was for 45 cents above the rack price for a total of $1.97 per gallon. The other was for $2.40 a gallon. Group Adams previously was awarded a $14,418.25 contract for a propane furnace to be installed at the town garage.

In other business Monday, Flagg told selectmen that Harold “Todd” Owens had resigned and moved out of state. He worked at the wastewater treatment plant.

She posted the union position in house and interviews will be conducted Friday. As of Monday, one person was interested, she said.

Whoever is chosen has two weeks to decide if they like the job, and the town has two weeks to decide if the person is a good fit in the position, she said. If no one is hired in-house, the position will be advertised.
