FARMINGTON — The town will fill the vacant position of RSU 9 school board,  after all.

When Eric Gilbert moved to Jay in September, it has gone back and forth between the town and school superintendent on who was responsible to appoint a successor.

It turns out there is a provision in the town’s charter that requires the town to fill the position.

Town Manager Richard Davis called Superintendent Tom Ward on Tuesday and apologized for dragging it, Ward said. Town officials had been looking at filling a position under a municipal school system, he said.

Farmington officials will now discuss how they want to fill the director’s slot.

Resident Keith Welch, a retired principal, of Farmington previously expressed interest in the position.
