AUBURN — Families and students in Maine are invited to learn more about a prospective tuition-free educational option for students in grades seven to 12.
Maine Connections Academy, a proposed full-time statewide virtual public charter school, will host in-person information sessions for families interested in learning more about the prospective school.
Families are invited to RSVP to attend a session to learn about the prospective enrollment process, review the curriculum and discover if Maine Connections Academy is the right school for their student.
Area sessions will be held Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Augusta: 10 to 11 a.m., Fairfield Inn and Suites, Augusta Room, 14 Anthony Ave.
Auburn: 2 to 3 p.m., Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch, Mill Pond Room, 14 Great Falls Plaza.
“Many families in Maine have inquired about bringing a Connections Academy virtual public school to the state,” said Amy Volk, founding board president of Maine Connections Academy. “At the information sessions, parents and students will learn how this innovative public school-at-home may meet their needs.”
Maine Connections Academy’s charter application will be submitted in December and, if approved, the school will open in the 2014-2015 school year.
Students will learn from home under the instruction of Maine-certified teachers through online lessons and phone calls. The school will be governed by a board of directors composed of Maine residents.
Families and students seeking more information can attend a free information session. Email MaineCABoard@gmail.com, call 888–533–6360 or sign up to receive updates about the school.
