WESTBROOK — A local 22-year-old man was arrested Oct. 19 after allegedly breaking into a residential home and in connection with a series of burglaries in the area.

Robert Paul Auger of Westbrook was charged with burglary, theft and outstanding warrants.

Police said that over the past week, there have been a series of nighttime, residential burglaries at The Hamlet Coach Mobile Home Park, 665 Saco St. In at least one case, a hooded male suspect was scared off when a resident awoke to find him in their home, according to police.

Around 3 a.m. Saturday, a resident was awakened by her barking dog and found that someone had attempted to gain entry into her home, police said.

Westbrook police converged on the area and searched for the alleged suspect. They located and detained Auger fleeing on foot. After a subsequent follow-up investigation that included a Scarborough police K-9 team, Auger was arrested.

More charges are expected in the near future, police said.
