I am writing to congratulate the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer, Hope & Healing and everyone who participated in the recent 5th annual Dempsey Challenge in Lewiston-Auburn. More than $1.1 million was raised to support those people struggling with cancer and their families.

Having experienced cancer in my own family — with a brother who is a cancer survivor — I choose to get involved and participate for my first time in this year’s Dempsey Challenge, running in the 10K event. It was an incredible experience with participants of all ages, genders, races and fitness levels, and every mile along the way there were smiling volunteers to encourage us to keep moving forward.

I was amazed at how many people came together to support the fight against cancer. From the organizers, to the volunteers, to the runners and bicyclists, to those who financially supported the event: it took thousands of people giving of their time, energy and financial resources to bring this successful event together.

Thank you and congratulations to everyone who helped make the 5th annual Dempsey Challenge a huge success.
