PERU — Voters at the polls on Election Day next month will decide whether to have a townwide revaluation.

Town officials are seeking permission to take $40,000 from the revaluation reserve account and “as much as needed” from surplus to hire an independent appraiser for all town real estate and personal property, Town Clerk Vera Parent said Thursday morning.

“With the changes in the economy and property values, it’s probably a good time to do that,” she said.

If the request is approved, she said the project will go out to bid next year.

Parent said a townwide revaluation will probably cost more than $100,000. Peru last did one in 1999. It took effect a year later.

The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the Town Office.
