On Wednesday, Oct. 9, , there was an article about an 8-year-old girl who was left standing by the road after her mom had dropped her off to catch the bus to school.

I am a driver for Hudson Bus Lines and I was right behind the bus in question and observed the entire event.

There were three adult women present, two of whom are the parents of the children I was waiting to pick up. The older woman of the three was having a conversation with the driver while the determination was being made on the girl’s suspension. I observed the girl leaving the bus and the older woman walking with her toward her house. At no time was that young girl ever left alone.

I have known that driver for seven years and that driver is the kindest, most conscientious and considerate person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. That driver would never leave a child by the wayside by themselves, never.

We, the drivers at Hudson Bus Lines, take the transportation of children very seriously. We would never knowingly endanger a child. There are processes in place that cover every possible scenario to protect the children on the buses we drive.

We transport thousands of children each and every day. In hot weather, rain and cold and blizzards. We never forget our responsibilities to the children in our care and our responsibility to the parents, to get their children to school and home safely.
