1923 – 2013
PORTLAND — Barkley H. Goodrich of Falmouth passed away on Saturday, Oct. 12, in Portland.
Barkley was born on Dec. 28, 1923, in Lewiston to Dr. Lynn and Lera Bearce Goodrich. He graduated from Edward Little High School, Auburn, as senior class president and from the University of Maine at Orono in 1948.
On July 9, 1948, he married Elizabeth Tufts Goodrich in Lewiston.
He served in the Army Ordinance Corps in the Philippines during WWII, and taught mechanical engineering at the University of Maine before entering an industrial and management career at Brown Company in New Hampshire; Bancroft and Martin, Inc. in Maine; and Kaman Industrial Technologies in Connecticut.
His greatest satisfactions came first from family and friends, and second, from service to his communities and local and national organizations — all of them appreciating his inherent good nature and common sense.
Barkley is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Tufts Goodrich; his children, Peter (Meg), Martha, Susan (Gary) and Jonathan (Betsy); and grandchildren, Andrew and Katrina Goodrich, Jacob and Eliza Preble, Steven and Geoffrey Lerner, and Susannah, Hugh and Katherine Goodrich.
