LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen requested that Town Manager Kristal Flagg draft a short policy on use of the town’s new message board at Gateway Park.

“We have gotten a lot of calls on the community bulletin board,” she told selectmen Monday. Requests have come in to put up benefit suppers, fundraisers, craft shows and more, she said.

“There is no way I could actually do it all,” she said.

Farmington adopted a policy to handle its message board, she said.

She didn’t know if the board wanted to put a policy in place.

The town’s functions would come first for use of the sign, she said.

Flagg said she can do the town-related messages such as a public hearing, Apple Pumpkin Festival or History Night, she said.

For a benefit supper, someone could give her the message and she could pick out the letters for it and that person could come in and get a key and put up the message and take them down and return the letters and key to the Town Office, she said.

“If we have a policy, everybody is treated the same,” Selectman Louise Chabot said. That way, nobody could complain that they were treated unfairly, she said.

The sign will not be used for political or religious purposes, Flagg said.

Chairman Bill Demaray said it would be good to develop a short policy on the board’s use.

“It is good that a lot of people want to use it,” he said.

A policy will be presented to the board at its next meeting Oct. 21.

Flagg also informed selectmen that Anthony Arruda, a representative of the Senior Planning Center in Farmington, has offered to hold two seminars on what the different Medicare and Medicaid/MaineCare plans are between Androscoggin and Franklin counties.

Voters will be asked Nov. 5 if they want to leave Androscoggin County to join Franklin County. If the answer is yes, voters in those counties will vote in June 2014 on the proposal.

Every county offers different plans, Flagg said.

Under the Affordable Care Act, Franklin and Androscoggin counties are combined but Medicare and Medicaid are different, she said.

The seminars will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Town Office.

People would need to register to attend, she said. They can call the center at 778-6601. Flagg said she could also take some calls at 897-3321.
