AUBURN — Taylor Landry corraled a through ball off the foot of Calli Murray and popped a shot over Bangor keeper Emily Gilmore with 20:20 to play in the first half and that held up as the game’s only goal as Edward Little stunned previously-unbeaten Bangor, 1-0, in girls’ varsity soccer action Saturday.

Molly Murray earned the shutout for the Red Eddies (6-4) with a 10-save effort as the Rams (8-1) outshot EL 16-10.

Gilmore made nine saves in the loss for Bangor.

Cony 2, Mt. Blue 2

FARMINGTON — With Mt. Blue leading by one at half, Cony struck back in the second frame and the score remained even through two periods of overtime, as Cony tied Mt. Blue 2-2 in girls’ varsity soccer action.

Emily Quirion netted both goals for the Rams (5-4-1), while Eryn Doiron and Miranda Nicely each tallied one for the Cougars (4-4-2).

In an evenly matched game, goaltender Thia Bridges made 14 saves on 18 shots for Mt. Blue, while her counterpart Autumn Sudsbury also made 14 saves on 18 shots.

Boys’ Soccer

Oxford Hills 6, Brewer 2

BREWER — Matt Beauchesne registered a hat trick on the afternoon, scoring three goals, as Oxford Hills cruised past Brewer 6-2 in boys’ varsity soccer action.

Andrew Fleming, Tyus Ripley, and Kelton Loper all found the bank of the net for the Vikings (3-6). Ryan Gideon and Greg Warmuth scored the only two goals for the Witches (2-8), while goltender Caleb Eggert made 10 saves.

Field Hockey

Hampden 3, Lewiston 2 OT

LEWISTON — Kelly Martin notched two goals on the day for the Broncos, as they topped Lewiston in the first period of extra time, 3-2.

Sara Palmer broke the scoreless tie in overtime giving the Broncos the lead, while Katie Seekins paced Hampden (3-7-1), stopping two shots. Jenessa Talarico and Kaylyn Sampson tallied a goal each for the Blue Devils (2-8).

Salve Regina 2, UNE 0

NEWPORT, R.I. — Evan Dudney and Devin L’Heureux scored in the second half to give the host Salve Regina University Seahawks a 2-0 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men’s soccer match Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon at Reynolds Field. The reigning CCC champion Seahawks won their third straight match to even their record at 5-5-1. UNE slips below the .500 mark at 4-5-2 (0-3-1 CCC).

HENNIKER, N.H. — New England College men’s soccer extended its winning streak to five games on Saturday with a 5-0 win over visiting University of Maine at Farmington at Don Melander Field. The Pilgrims improved to 7-3-1 overall, while the loss drops the Beavers to 2-5-1 on the season.

Thomas 2, Colby-Sawyer 1

NEW LONDON, N.H. — Thomas College received a second half goal off the foot of junior Kenny Cano (Lowell, Mass.) to earn a 2-1 road win at Colby-Sawyer, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers (5-4-1) found the equalizer in the 30th minute when senior Paul Rechichi (Kingsley, Australia) scored on a penalty kick.

UMass Dartmouth 5, USM 0

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. —Junior Josh Chao (New Bedford, Mass.) scored two goals as the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs cruised by the visiting USM Huskies, 5-0, in a Little East Conference men’s soccer match Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field. The Huskies remain winless on the season falling to 0-3 in the conference and 0-11-1 overall.

Husson 2, Lyndon State 0

BANGOR, ME — Husson men’s soccer scored two second half goals against Lyndon State, to secure their undefeated record against North Atlantic Conference opponents this season. With 67 minutes of scoreless, physical play, Jimmy Fitzpatrick (Houlton, ME) struck first, while Alain Tuyishime (Rwanda) scored later making it 2-0.

Conneticut College 2, Bates 0

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Connecticut College men’s soccer recorded two goals in a five-minute span in the first half to pick up its first NESCAC win of the season, defeating Bates College 2-0 at Tempel Green on Saturday afternoon. , in a physical game. In a game that remained physical through two halves, Doug Garabedian and Zach Punt scored the two lone goals for the hosts.

St. Joseph’s 3, Anna Maria 1

STANDISH, ME — Senior midfielder Kyle Shangraw (Westbrook, Maine) recorded a goal and an assist in the victory to help the Monks remain undefeated in GNAC play as they topped Anna Maria 3-1 in mens’ soccer. Overall, Saint Joseph’s held an 18-12 advantage in shots, and an 11-0 cushion in corner kicks, while Saint Joseph’s sophomore keeper Scott Benner (Post Falls, Idaho) made three saves in goal.

Bowdoin 1, Trinity 1 (2OT)

HARTFORD, Conn. — Bowdoin (2-2-3, 0-2-2 NESAC) is still looking for its first conference win after battling the 15th ranked Bantams (6-1-2) through two scoreless overtime periods. Will Wise made two saves to record a clean slate for Bowdoin, while Zach Danssaert scored the lone goal 4 minutes and 20 seconds into the second half.

Colby-Sawyer 3, Thomas 0

NEW LONDON, N.H. — Marion James (Willsboro, N.Y.) scored first for Colby-Sawyer, as they cruised past Thomas 3-0 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest saturday afternoon. Michelle Upham (Chelsea, Vt.) and Tallon Tomasi (Williston, Vt.) scored the final two goals for the Chargers as they improve to 10-2 overall while Thomas dips to 3-8 overall.

Colby 1, Wesleyan 0

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Amelia Barnett’s first collegiate goal could not have come at a better time for the Colby College women’s soccer team after a 1-0 road win at Wesleyan University on Saturday. The Mules, in a must-win situation, improved to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in the NESCAC. Wesleyan fell to 1-4-3 overall and 0-3-2 in the conference.

Bowdoin 3, Trinity 0

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Bowdoin women’s soccer team scored three first half goals to shut out nationally ranked Trinity 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. Kiersten Turner, Molly Popolizio and Abby Hammerl all found the back of the net for the Polar Bears (7-1-1, 3-1-1 NESCAC), who have now knocked off two nationally ranked teams this season.

Conneticut College 2, Bates 1

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Sophomore Caitrin Griffin gave Bates College women’s soccer an early 1-0 lead, but Connecticut College scored goals at 40 and 90 minutes to pull out a 2-1 win at Tempel Green on Saturday. The Bobcats (2-6-1, 1-5-1 NESCAC), were paced by senior keeper Anabel Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.), who stopped three shots.

UMass Dartmouth 3, USM 0

GORHAM, Maine — Senior Kathleen Landers (Danvers, Mass.) scored twice as the visiting University of Massachusetts Dartmouth topped the University of Southern Maine Huskies 3-0 in a Little East Conference women’s soccer match Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field. The Corsairs erupted with three goals within a span of 8:14 midway through the first half to secure the victory.

NEWPORT, R.I. — Junior Kaitlyn Hall scored with just over 20 minutes remaining to break a 1-all tie, as the University of New England topped Salve Regina University Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon at Reynolds Field. Rookie goalkeeper Brielle Robinson improved her record to 3-0 with five saves for the Nor’easters (6-4-1), who led 24-8 in shots.

Wesleyan 2, Colby 1 2OT

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Sophomore Hannah Plappert had the only goal of the game in regulation for Wesleyan, and then scored the deciding penalty stroke in an overtime shootout, to lead the Wesleyan Cardinal field hockey team to a 2-1 win over visiting Colby College in a NESCAC game here this afternoon. Erin Maguire scored the tying goal in regulation for the White Mules.

Bowdoin 2, Trinity 1

HARTFORD, Conn. — Colleen Finnerty rattled in the game winning goal during double overtime to lift the Bowdoin field hockey team to a 2-1 win over host Trinity this afternoon. Emily Simonton scored on a feed from Katie Riley to tally the lone goal in regulation for the Polar Bears.

UNE 5, Endicott 2

BEVERLY, Mass. — The University of New England field hockey team exploded for four second-half goals to break open a close match on its way to a 5-2 victory over Endicott College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon at North Field. Big Blue utilized 5 different scorers on the day, while outshooting the Gulls 32-8.

Bates 2, Conneticut College 1

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Senior captain Sarah Warden scored from the top of the circle in the 40th minute for Bates’ first lead of the game, and the Bobcat field hockey team went on to pick up its first NESCAC win of the season by a 2-1 score on Saturday. Senior Bridget Meedzan (Ipswich, Mass.) answered Connecticut College’s opening score with an unassisted game-tying tally just two minutes later.

USM 5, Westfield State 2

WESTFIELD, Mass. — Southern Maine junior Peyton Dostie (Standish,
Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored four goals and had an assist – all in the
second half – to lead the University of SouthernMaine Huskies to a 5-2 victory over the Westfield State University Owls in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. With the score 2-0 at half, Southern Maine’s offense ignited and rattled in 5 goals in the second half to secure the victory.

Bowdoin 13, Tufts 0

SOMERVILLE — Senior Tim Wickstrom intercepted a pass at the goal line with 35 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to seal the Bowdoin College football team’s 13-10 victory at Tufts on Saturday in NESCAC action at Ellis Oval / Zimman Field. Running back Zach Donnarumma gained 136 yards and scored a touchdown on 29 carries as the visiting Polar Bears (1-2) earned their first victory of the season.

Husson 34, Castleton 3

BANGOR, ME — Husson football was extremely impressive Saturday during Homecoming, topping Castleton 34-3 in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference play. Newly appointed starting quarterback Joe Seccareccia completed 12 of 17 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Tailback Byron Jackson had 125 yards on the ground for Husson, with his longest run coming for 49 yards.
