LEWISTON — Sadie Royer netted a pair of goals in the first frame Thursday, enough to give Leavitt a 2-0 win over Gardiner in KVAC field hockey action at Bates College.

Defending Class B champion Leavitt entered the game in fourth position in Western B, while Gardiner was No. 3 in the East.

Veteran keeper Sierra Santomango needed only one save to record the shutout. Emalee Couture turned back two shots for Gardiner.

St. Dom’s 3, Mountain Valley 1

AUBURN — Callie Greco registered a hat trick to propel St. Dom’s to a 3-1 victory over Mountain Valley in MVC field hockey action Thursday.

Brittany Eastman also contributed for the Saints (3-8) with two assists, while Jessica Boulet also provided an assist. Alyson Carlton scored the lone goal for Mountain Valley (2-9).

Taylor Bergeron made 13 saves for St. Dom’s, while Kassie Thibodeau deflected 11 shots for the Falcons.

Mt. Blue 3, Edward Little 0

FARMINGTON — Sarita Crandall led a trio of players to register goals Thursday as Mt. Blue rolled to a 3-0 victory over Edward Little in a KVAC field hockey tilt.

Leah St. Laurent and Mikayla Oswald also tallied for the Cougars (9-2) to complete the scoring.

Poland 3, Gray-New Gloucester 0

POLAND — Amanda Dube netted a pair of goals Thursday to lead Poland to a 3-0 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in a WMC field hockey matchup.

Kyla Sturtevant also tallied for the Knights to complete the scoring. Liz Callahan needed only one save to notch the shutout.

Oxford Hills 1, Mt. Ararat 0

PARIS — Jesse Murch scored on a rebound off the goalie’s pad just over 27 minutes into the game as Oxford Hills snuck past Mt. Ararat 1-0 in KVAC field hockey action Thursday.

Veteran keeper Shannon Fillebrown made 13 saves for the Vikings (7-4) to preserve the shutout. Nelly Hetherington deflected eight shots between the posts for Mt. Ararat (5-7).

Boy’s Soccer

Hall-Dale 2, Spruce Mountain 0

JAY —  With just enough offense to control the pace, Hall-Dale managed a goal in each half Thursday and came away with a 2-0 win over Spruce Mountain in MVC boys’ soccer action.

Konnor Longfellow gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the first frame before assisting Nat Crocker’s insurance goal in the second half. 

Williams Spencer made saves to preserve the shutout, while Dustin Jones turned aside 11 shots between the posts for Spruce Mountain.

Edward Little 2, Oxford Hills 1

PARIS — Abdi Yonis converted a pass from Luke Sterling with 3:35 left in regulation to give Edward Little a 2-1 win over Oxford Hills in more KVAC boys’ soccer action Thursday.

Michael Hammond gave the Red Eddies (6-1-1) a 1-0 advantage in the first half. Caleb Fillebrown tied the game at 1-1 with 4:47 left to play with an assist from Matt Beauchesne.

Lew Jensen made four saves for Edward Little, while Jake Beauchesne deflected five shots for Oxford Hills.

Poland 11, Lake Region 0

POLAND —  Jared Martel and Kyle Radziszewski netted two goals apiece Thursday as Poland overpowered Lake Region 11-0 in more boy’s soccer action.

Nigel Williams, Ben Campbell, Dan Bernier, Derek Michaud, Shawn Mitchell, Shawn Murphy and Lukas Johnson also tallied for the Knights (2-7-1) to complete the scoring.

Zack Lowe needed only two saves to record the shutout.

St. Dom’s 1, Mountain Valley 0

RUMFORD — Emma Byrne kicked in an unassisted goal in the first half and St. Dom’s made a 1-0 victory over Mountain Valley (1-8) stick in a girls’ soccer game Thursday.

The Saints (8-1-1) outshot the Falcons, 24-9, and held the advantage in corners, 10-0. St. Dom’s goalie Kelly Pomerleau made five saves to preserve her shutout.

Richmond 3, Buckfield 0

RICHMOND — Richmond (8-1) reeled off three goals in the first half and coasted to a 3-0 victory over Buckfield (6-4-1) in a girls’ soccer game Thursday.

Taylor Veaulieu, Meranda Martin and Kelsea Anair each scored a goal, while Martin and Camryn Hurley each earned an assist. Buckfield goalie Arrabine Dunn made 24 saves.

Brunswick 5, Lewiston 0

BRUNSWICK — Anna Cowan netted a pair of goals to lead Brunswick to a 5-0 romp over Lewiston in more KVAC girl’s soccer action Thursday.

Emily Black, Lyse Henshaw and Madeline Cowan also tallied for the Dragons (6-3-1) to complete the scoring.

Haley Murano made eight saves to preserve the shutout, while Kelsey St. Cyr deflected 13 shots between the posts for Lewiston (0-7-1).

Monmouth 4, Telstar 0

BETHEL — Kylie Kemp registered a hat trick Thursday as Monmouth hustled to a 4-0 win over Telstar in another MVC girl’s soccer tilt.

Maddie Bumann also tallied for the Mustangs (6-2) to complete the scoring. Mikayla Cameron made three saves to notch the shutout.

Tehya Johnson turned back eight shots for the struggling Rebels (0-8-2).

Mt. Blue 2, Messalonskee 1

OAKLAND — Eryn Doiron netted her second goal with just 9:47 left in regulation to give Mt. Blue a 2-1 victory over Messalonskee.

Doiron scored early on to give the Cougars (4-4-1) a 1-0 lead in the first frame. Mckenna Broder tallied for the Eagles (3-6) with an assist from Kaitlin Eschenbrembr.

Thia Bridges made 19 saves for Mt. Blue, while Taylor Easler turned abck 19 shots for Messalosnkee.

Spruce Mountain 1, Mt. Abram 0

JAY — Hayley Doyen converted a feed from Megan Duval at the 34:30 mark to give Spruce Mountain a 1-0 MVC win over Mt. Abram. 

Veteran keeper Emily Keene made 11 saves for the Phoenix (8-2-0), while Roadrunners’ (4-5-0) goalie Allison Lopez had a stellar effort with 24 shots deflected. 

College Field Hockey

Bates 3, USM 1

GORHAM – Caroline Falcone scored twice and senior Polly Merck converted a penalty stroke to propel Bates to a 3-1 win over the University of Southern Maine in a collegiate field hockey tilt Thursday.

Falcone scored off a pass from sophomore Alex Eliopoulos at the 25:30 mark to give the Bobcats (2-7) a 1-0 lead. Eliopoulos found Falcone in front of the right side of the cage, and she then turned and beat Huskies (4-8) goalie Kayla Kennedy on the near side. Falcone tallied her second goal of the game and her third of the contest off a rebound in the 66th minute.

Merck added the Bobcats’ second tally off a penalty stroke in the 51st minute. Bates put pressure on the Huskies defense prior to earning the penalty as senior Lexie Carter drove a shot on goal. USM pulled to within a goal on a score from Peyton Dostie with an assist from Leanne Reichert just over three minutes later.

Cristina Vega made six saves to earn the win in her first start of the season.
