PLEASANT POINT (AP) — The finance director of the Passamaquoddy Tribe’s Pleasant Point Reservation in Maine has been fired after tribal leaders discovered that he pleaded guilty to embezzling $2.66 million from a South Dakota tribal college.
Passamaquoddy leaders said the man they hired in the spring to oversee an $11 million budget gave his name as Charles Fourcloud. They said his real name is Arlynn Knudsen, and he was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison in 1998 after pleading guilty to embezzling Oglala Lakota College.
The issue came to light when Fourcloud was arrested last month on a driving with a suspended license charge.
Chief Clayton Cleaves told the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/15NqNAa ) tribal officials are investigating their finances for the months Fourcloud was in charge.
Fourcloud’s attorney had no comment on his client’s past.
