OXFORD — The Mollyockett Chorus will host a community singalong from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Skeetfield Road.
Chorus member Marylin Newell said in a news release that the event will be open to women of any age and will “feature a brief introduction to barbershop harmony performed by the chorus,” as well as “an introduction to some of the Christmas music that will be a part of the chorus’ seasonal repertoire.
“As the singalong gets closer, we’ve finalized our schedule a little more,” Newell said Tuesday morning. “First, we’ll sing some novelty songs as our warm-up, stuff like ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’ or ‘My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.’ After that, we’ll present some of the numbers we’ll be doing in our competition. Finally, we’ll end by inviting those who attend to sing Christmas songs with us.”
The Christmas songs will be those the chorus performs during its Christmas program at nursing homes during the holidays.
The Mollyockett Chorus, which was first chartered in 1996, rehearses every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “New members are always welcome,” Newell said.
Member Jolan Ippolito said, “Even though we rehearse in Oxford, we have members from Rumford, Waterford, Lovell, Sabattus, Bridgton and surrounding areas.”
