PORTLAND (AP) — A man authorities say sold fake federal identification cards to people in Maine who were in the U.S. illegally has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge.

Roman Garcia-Lopez, also known as Romeo Bartalon, pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Portland to conspiracy to produce false identification documents as part of a plea deal in which two charges of transfer of false identification documents were dismissed.

Federal prosecutors said the 56-year-old Garcia-Lopez, a Mexican national, sold fake green cards and Social Security cards to people in the Portland area from 2011 until May 2012.

Authorities said two cooperating witnesses bought fake documents from Garcia-Lopez for $180 each.

He faces up to 15 years in prison at sentencing scheduled for Jan. 23.
