RUMFORD/MEXICO — The Rumford and Mexico Historical Societies entertained eight ladies from the Naples Library Book Club on Sept. 18. The group had used the book, “When We Were the Kennedys” by Monica Woods, formerly of Mexico.
Jane Peterson, president of the Rumford Historical Society, arranged for the group to meet Joe Gorham to tour the Holy Savior Church in Rumford where they appreciated the beauty of the edifice and the intriguing mural in the social hall. They had an opportunity to view the former St. Athanasius Church and the Holy Savior School and former convent.
This was followed by visits to the Rumford and Mexico libraries where the staff graciously discussed Woods’ involvement with those two facilities as a child and an adult.
A stop at Woods’ former tenement building, a pleasant lunch at the Chicken Coop and a drive-by visit to St. Theresa’s Church in Mexico was culminated by a tour of the Mexico Historical Society’s building, hosted by President Robert Daigle, Irene Hutchinson and Lorraine Legere.
