LEWISTON — Looking for a volunteer opportunity? There will be a Volunteer Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Callahan Hall in Lewiston Public Library. Organizations looking for volunteers include the United Way, SeniorsPlus, Central Maine Medical Center, The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer, Hope & Healing, Lewiston Public Library, Catholic Charities-S.E.A.R.C.H. Program and Vista Program.
AUBURN — City Council workshop and regular meeting in the City Council Chambers of Auburn Hall. Workshop to begin at 5:30 p.m., meeting at 7 p.m.
TUESDAY, Sept. 17
LEWISTON — City Council workshop and regular meeting. Workshop begins at 6 p.m. and includes a discussion of the Bates College Master Plan. The regular meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and topics include junkyard permits, a panhandling ordinance and the Pierce Plaza development agreement.
AUBURN — Community Conversations, 6 p.m. in Edward Little High School. Residents are invited to attend to discuss their priorities and Auburn.
WEDNESDAY, Sept. 18
LEWISTON — Saudi Arabian women’s rights activist Manal al-Sharif will speak about her work to gain women in Saudi Arabia the right to drive, 7:30 p.m., Muskie Archives, Bates College campus. In 2011, al-Sharif filmed herself driving in Saudi Arabia, the only country in the world where it is illegal for women to drive. Her video was seen by over half a million people on YouTube in a few weeks. She was arrested and spent nine days in jail. In 2012, Time Magazine named her one of the world’s 100 most influential people. Her talk is free and open to the public.

FRIDAY, Sept. 20
LEWISTON — International Potluck Supper and Film Screening in celebration of National Welcoming Week, 5 to 7 p.m., Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St. Evening will begin with foods people bring representing ethnic groups, followed by discussion and short documentary about 2003 “Many and One” rally. AUBURN — 17th annual Pet Festival sponsored by Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, Lewiston. Events include Dash for Dogs at 8:30 a.m., blessing of the animals followed by dog walk at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. there are talent contests, games, agility demonstrations, canine pool party, adoptable pets including puppies, Auburn Petco.
