FARMINGTON — A Wilton man pleaded guilty Friday to grabbing the steering wheel of a truck he was a passenger in and causing it to crash on Route 2 in Wilton in March.

Michael Dalot, 59, pleaded guilty in Franklin County Superior Court to a misdemeanor charge of reckless conduct.

He was arrested on a felony charge of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, but under a plea agreement the charge was lowered.

Wilton police previously said Dalot was an intoxicated passenger in a truck driven by a relative. Dalot grabbed the wheel and refused to let go, causing a pickup truck to cross the oncoming lane of Route 2, go over an embankment and strike a tree.

No one was injured.

Justice Michaela Murphy sentenced Dalot to six months in jail with all time suspended and nine months of probation.

During that time he is not use or possess alcohol or illegal drugs.

He also had a charge of violating condition of release when he tested positive for alcohol after his arrest. That charge was dismissed and he was given credit for the 48 hours he served in jail.
