OXFORD — Forty men and women from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Canada will compete in contests of strength and accuracy in the annual Woodsman Day Event at  Oxford County Fairgrounds on Friday, Sept. 13. The event begins at 9 a.m.

Events include axe throwing at a target, wood chopping of an 8 by 8 block, buck sawing, two-people crosscut sawing, two chainsaw events, two-people log rolling, Jack and Jill crosscut event with a male and female on 8 x 8 blocks and tree felling for accuracy and time.

Three championships will be awarded to overall point champions in the divisions of men, women and masters.

Many of the contestants have been competing throughout the summer in contests held at Maine agricultural fairs and special woodmen events in New England and New York.

There will be free drawings of many items donated by local businesses for audience and contestants. Items include T-shirts, hats, chainsaw carvings, picnic table and gift certificates.
