SUMNER — The East Sumner Congregational Church will host the third annual Streaked Mountain Woodcarvers’ Camp and Carve Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

The event is sponsored by the Maine Woodcarvers Association, local President Bob Perry said.

The public is invited to see demonstrations by the carvers on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church on Route 219. A carving by Ron Dobson depicting an old carver at his work will be on display. It has been appraised at $7,500 and will be raffled off at the Downeast Wood Carving & Wildlife Art Show this month.

A program by woodcarvers in Maine to give all honorably discharged veterans an eagle-head cane is now part of a national program that gives the canes to all wounded veterans.
