It was a neat job done by Chief-of-Police Leader, Wednesday night, when he discovered the plot of a bunch of crooks who were planning to rush the Maine State Fair’s lower ticket office and seize the money till. The discovery was brought about by the pickpocket who had been detained earlier in the day for an attempt to “work” near the window. This man was put thru the third degree by Leader and finally agreed to tell of the plot providing he could be released. The chief promised to do this and the crook was taken to the depot and put aboard the train. Before the train pulled out one of his pals showed up and was taken in tow by the officer. The men admitted that they had intended to rush the ticket office, but as the scheme had fallen thru, there was nothing on which they could be held. Both men were run out of town, and if any of the gang are left they are keeping quiet.

Because school officials have found a need for the service, a pilot breakfast program will be offered this year at Sherwood Heights School in Auburn, said School Lunch Program Director Janice Millett. The program, which will begin on the first day of school, will provide pupils with a breakfast consisting of juice, milk and cereal for 60 cents, or 30 cents for those qualifying for reduced rates.
