TURNER (AP) — Maine prosecutors say any charges in a shooting at an Androscoggin County egg farm will likely come from a grand jury.
Deputy Attorney General William Stokes said investigators are still doing ballistic tests on a .22-caliber rifle they believe was used in the shooting.
Authorities say 57-year-old Manuel Adame of Lewiston was fatally shot Aug. 19 by another worker who was shooting at rodents and stray chickens as one of the farm’s chicken barns was being cleared out.
Stokes told the Portland Press Herald Friday the shooting was accidental but it’s important to the victim’s family that prosecutors present a complete case.
The farm is called Moark Egg Farm and is owned by Land O’Lakes Inc.
