LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library and the Maine chapter of the AARP will host a discussion Sept. 4 on the finer points of the Affordable Care Act.

The program, “The Affordable Care Act and You,” will be presented by AARP representative Ellen Harris-Howard at 6 p.m. in the library’s Callahan Hall. Harris-Howard will discuss the impact of the Affordable Care Act will have on families and individuals in Maine.

Harris-Howard has spent her entire career in the health care and insurance fields, working in administrative posts and as a registered nurse for 45 years.

Her presentation will include details on the sections of the law that are in place, the health insurance exchange scheduled to open in October, a survey of consumer protections included in the new legislation, and financial help available to people needing health insurance.

The presentation is co-sponsored by AARP Maine and the library. Brochures and other handouts discussing the Affordable Care Act will be provided at no charge.

This program is free, open to all and no registration is required.
