Maine lawmakers OK $149.5M education, roads bonds: What’s in the bond package.

AUGUSTA — Maine voters will be asked this November to decide how much the state should borrow for roads, bridges and education facilities.

Adrienne Bennett, a spokeswoman for Republican Gov. Paul LePage, said Friday that he has signed a five-bill bond package worth up to $149.5 million. The Democratic-controlled Legislature approved the bills Thursday during a special session.

The package includes $100 million for roads, bridges, ports and other transportation projects.

It also puts more than $35 million into upgrading and expanding buildings and classrooms at Maine’s universities and community colleges. Maine’s armories would receive $14 million for upgrades and repairs, which lawmakers say are desperately needed.
