DIXFIELD — The RSU 10 board learned Monday night that a member of the Andover Withdrawal Committee will make a presentation on its plan to leave SAD 44, which could impact the district.

Superintendent Craig King said David Percival of Andover is scheduled to appear before the RSU 10 board in mid-September.

For the past two years, Andover has been working toward leaving SAD 44 and developing an educational plan for its students. King said part of that plan includes paying tuition to send students to Telstar Regional High School in Bethel or Mountain Valley High School in Rumford. Elementary students would remain in Andover.

SAD 44 also includes the town of Bethel, Greenwood, Newry and Woodstock.

RSU 10 includes the towns of Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Peru, Buckfield, Hartford, Sumner, Byron, Mexico, Roxbury, Rumford and Hanover.

King said Mountain Valley could receive up to 40 high school students from Andover. The Rumford school has more than sufficient space to accommodate that number, he said.

Also on Monday, several educational technicians who had worked with the special education program were laid off due to a loss of federal dollars. However, special education director Clarissa Errington said those positions must continue to maintain a best practices program for those children.

The board approved moving several educational technicians from other schools in the district to serve the special education program.

Those who have lost their jobs will be placed on a call-back list if openings should arise in the future.

King said RSU 10 enrollment stands at 2,709, plus 120 prekindergarten students. He said the district’s official numbers will be available in October.

Resignations from Dirigo Middle School science teacher Erin Overlock and RSU 10 tutor Kate Goroshin were approved.
