BANGOR — Police are searching for a man who allegedly shot at another man after an altercation at a bar early Sunday morning.

According to Lt. Paul Edwards, police arrived at the area of Main and Water streets around 12:45 a.m. after it was reported there was a gunshot victim in the street.

When Officer Shawn Green arrived, a group of people on Main Street pointed to a handgun magazine lying in the middle of the road and stated a suspect had fled on foot down Columbia Street, Edwards said.

One witness told the officer that she had seen a male friend involved in a fight in the back parking lot of the Tavern bar with several African-American men, the lieutenant said. She tried to pull him away but she was punched in the face.

Her male friend chased an African-American man down Main Street onto Middle Street when she heard a gunshot, Edwards said, and she subsequently found her friend lying on the ground but not wounded as the suspect ran onto Columbia Street.

The suspect, who is black, has a medium to heavy build, wears glasses and was wearing a black or blue baseball cap with “New York” or “NY” on it, Edwards said.

Anyone with information should contact Bangor police at 947-7382. The department’s tip line can be used by pressing ext. 6.
