We need help. My 83-year-old wife has been insured with Anthem for many years. We have been happy, even if premiums were higher than other companies, including the company promoted by AARP.

The new Anthem plan clearly states that it will not cover doctors from Central Maine Medical Center, except for emergencies. We spend winters in Florida and worry if Anthem will cover doctors and hospitals there, should the need occur.

If it won’t cover doctors from CMMC, that obviously means that we have to find a different cardiologist (whom we like).

We read that older people don’t have to worry, as we are “grandfathered.” Should we worry that provision might change in the future?

A short comment might be relevant here. Several years ago, our Rotary Club invited a spokesman for then Gov. John Baldacci to talk about the Dirigo Plan. After the presentation, I asked him what would happen when Dirigo “falls flat on its face.” His only response was that I would need to ask that of the governor himself.

As I predicted, Dirigo fell flat on its face.

New we hear that Anthem will be marrying MaineHealth. Isn’t that the old Dirigo gang?

As everyone knows, President Obama can borrow or print money to pay claims. I don’t think Anthem can.

We hope that Anthem’s representative will have answers for us at the public hearing Thursday at Central Maine Community College in Auburn.
