Ellis River Riders weekend shows
ANDOVER — Ellis River Riders will hold a Gymkhana Horse Show at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, and an English and Western Horse Show at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at Ellis River Riders Arena.
The events are free for spectators. The food booth will be open.

Dirigo senior class plans car show
DIXFIELD — Dirigo High School Class of 2014 will host a car show Sunday, Sept. 1, at the school, 145 Weld St.
All cars are welcome. Registration starts at 8 a.m.
Admission is $2.
Voting ends at noon with awards at 2 p.m. or earlier. There will be concessions, raffles and 50/50 and more.

Dead River Hist. ice cream social
STRATTON — The Dead River Area Historical Society will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1. An ice cream social will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and along with your ice cream enjoy a brownie ala mode made and served by the group’s volunteers.
The Dead River Area Historical Society is open every weekend throughout July and August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by advance appointment year-round. Displays include a collection of old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.

Region 9 open enrollment
MEXICO — Region 9 Adult Education will hold open enrollment for new and returning students Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 3 to 5, from 8 a.m. to noon, at 377 River Road. Anyone interested in enrolling in academic classes for the first fall term should attend. Region 9 will be offering reading, math and writing classes for students working towards their GED or high school diploma.
For those interested in improving skills for college enrollment, there will also be classes in college prep math and English and writing.
Staff this year includes Duane Dorion as lead teacher, Bonnie Bouchard as part-time instructor, Corrine Downs as Transitions coordinator and Amy Hatch as computer teacher and administrative assistant.

Oxford Recreation plans Duck Race
OXFORD — The Oxford Recreation Duck Race will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the bridge by The Oxford Rec Center.
Tickets are $5 each. First-place winner will receive $200; second, $150; third, $100; and the last duck to cross the finish line will receive $100.

Annual fall shoots planned
PARIS — The Norway-Paris Fish and Game Association has set the dates for the annual fall shoots.
The three shoots are set for Sundays, Sept. 8, 15 and 22. Trap and running deer competitions will be held. There will be two categories, youth (16 and under) and adult.
Prizes have been donated by many local businesses and supporters of the club. The overall winners of the three shoots will receive trophies to be presented at the Oct. 16 monthly meeting at the club house, 744 Buckfield Road. The gun raffle winners will be drawn at the Sept. 22 shoot.
The club has also planned a sponsor appreciation dinner for the annual sponsors to be held at the Nov. 20 meeting.

Spots available on Branson trip
RUMFORD — Rumford Senior Center is hosting a fall bus trip to Branson Show Extravaganza.
This is an 11-day, 10-night tour trip. The bus will leave from the Rumford Senior Center and Fireside Inn in Auburn on Nov. 15 and will return on Nov. 25. The cost is $905 pp/do. $75 is required to reserve a seat and is due by Sept. 9.
Featured shows are Cassandre: Voice of an Angel Show, George Dyer Show, Buck Trent Show, The Haygoods Show, The Dutton Family Show, The Great American Christmas Show featuring Tony Orlando, and Showboat Branson Belle.
Other points of interest in the tour are the Made in America Store, Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
