Mykealla Lucas of Auburn, her mother, Jodi Lucas, center, Lisa Fields, right, and Sheri Withers, not pictured, spin hula hoops at Dufresne Plaza in Lewiston on Thursday evening. Lucas, a 9-year-old fourth-grader at Park Avenue Elementary, and a group of mostly women gather each Thursday at 6 p.m. to twirl, spin and roll. “We are just a group of girls who get together,” Fields, of Auburn, said. “We are all different levels and the more advanced people teach the new people new tricks.” The gathering started about a month ago when hoop-maker Cindy Lou Hoops held a make-your-own hoop workshop at Downtown Handmade & Vintage on Lisbon Street. The women tried out their hula hoops at the plaza and have returned each week ever since. Men come on occasion, Fields said.
