JAY — Police recovered a stolen riding lawn mower off the Whistle-Stop Trail, an ATV trail, on Wednesday, Detective Richard Caton IV said.

The new Ariens mower, valued at about $1,500, is totaled, he said. It had rolled down a steep embankment and into a stone wall and was upside down.

A person walking on the trail Wednesday noticed the mower and called police, he said.

The ATV trail runs nearly parallel to Route 4 from Jay to West Farmington.

It was found in North Jay between the residence it was reported stolen from on Monday, and a residence that a truck was stolen from, also reported Monday.

The truck that was stolen is a 1996 red Nissan pickup truck.

“We believe they may be related,” Caton said.
