BLUE HILL (AP) — Two Massachusetts residents who planned to spend the day at Maine’s Acadia National Park instead got a rude introduction to a vacant field when their small plane went down.
Authorities said both pilot and passenger walked away without a scratch when the single-engine plane made an emergency landing in Blue Hill at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said pilot Scott Morton of Worcester, Mass., and his passenger, Cheryl Rennie of Millbury, Mass., had taken off from Sterling, Mass. en route to Bar Harbor.
Deputy Sheriff Fred Ehrlenbach told WABI-TV (http://bit.ly/16oz9AA ) that when one gas tanks ran out of gas, the other tank did not supply fuel to the engine, so it went down.
The cause is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
