LEWISTON — Police reported Monday a rash of home and car burglaries over the past two months.
The thefts included cash, credit cards, jewelry and tools, police said.
Police have beefed up patrols, including undercover officers in unmarked cars, on bicycles and on foot and have arrested four juveniles and one man.
On Thursday, police responded to several reported burglaries around 11 a.m. in the area of East Avenue and Webster Street. Detectives who investigated identified two teens, one 15 and one 16, as suspects. One was arrested that day, the other, a day later.
On Saturday, police investigated several burglaries reported around 4:30 p.m. A short time later, they arrested two teens, one 15, the other 16, after a foot chase.
A day later, police discovered that Eric Greenwood, 31, of Howard Street had burglar’s tools when he was stopped on Randall Road. After an investigation that included the execution of a search warrant, Greenwood was believed to be responsible for burglaries that happened on Water’s Edge Drive, Montello Street and Greenwood Lane as well as at least one burglary in Greene.
Greenwood was charged with burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, violation of bail conditions and failure to report correct address while on the sex offender registry.
Police said more related arrests are possible.
