PASSADUMKEAG — A bicyclist nearly lost his leg Sunday afternoon when a lawn mowing blade on a truck sliced him as it passed, according to a report in the Kennebec Journal. Police say a nurse who happened to be driving along Route 2 when the accident occurred probably saved the cyclist’s life.

A deputy with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office told the Kennebec Journal that the nurse pulled over and stopped the bleeding for the man, who was not identified but was described as being in his 50s.

Police told the KJ that an eight-foot lawn mowing blade had come loose on a trailer being towed by a truck. The driver didn’t know the blade had come loose, said police, who called the incident a “freak accident.”
