FARMINGTON — Three men face charges after police smelled marijuana coming from a vehicle during a traffic stop Friday night in downtown Farmington.

In a search of the vehicle, police found marijuana pipes, five bags containing 1.8 ounces of marijuana, six empty bags, American Spirit rolling papers, a digital scale with marijuana residue, a grinder and Zig-Zag wrappers, Farmington police secretary Rachel Heseltine said Monday.

Cole B. Cassidy, 19, of Durham and James Kuntz, 20, of Freeport were passengers in a 2007 Hyundai SUV driven by Thomas Glover, 19, of Bath, she said.

The men told police they were coming from the Green Love Festival at Harry Brown’s Farm in Starks.

Farmington officer Michael Raymond was at the light on Broadway at 10:53 p.m. Friday. He was preparing to turn onto Main Street when he was cut off by Glover’s SUV, she read from the police report.

He pulled the vehicle over and while talking to the driver, Raymond detected a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle, she said.

Raymond asked if they had marijuana. They showed him marijuana pipes, she said.

While running a check on the men, he found Cassidy had a deferred disposition on another charge.

Cassidy was arrested on a charge of unlawful trafficking in illegal drugs, violating conditions of release and possession of drug paraphernalia, she said. 

He was taken to Franklin County Detention Center, where he was released Saturday on $250 cash bail.

Glover and Kuntz were given summons on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The three men are expected to appear in Franklin County Unified Criminal Court on Oct. 9.
