CARTHAGE — A local man is accused of breaking into a Carthage residence and stealing a gun, electronics and DVDs.
Trooper Jed Malcore arrested Evan Hutchinson Jr., 18, of Carthage on Tuesday on felony charges of burglary and theft and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief, Lt. Aaron Hayden of the Maine State Police said Wednesday.
Police received a report of a burglary on July 30 at the residence.
The residence was entered by force, he said.
The victim had multiple electronics, several surveillance cameras, video cameras, DVDs and a firearm stolen, Hayden said.
Malcore received information on Sunday that Hutchinson might have been involved in the burglary, he said.
Trooper Keith Barton was able to confiscate the firearm and a computer that had been stolen from an associate of Hutchinson on Monday, he said.
Malcore arrested Hutchinson on Tuesday and most of the stolen items subsequently were recovered, he said.
A conviction on the felony burglary and theft charges each carry up to 10 years in prison.
Hutchinson’s bail was set Wednesday at $500 cash or in the alternative, personal recognizance bail with a pretrial service agreement, a correction officer said.
He was also ordered not to return to the victim’s residence.
