PITTSTON — Bruce Cater, 71, of Pittston and formerly of Gardiner, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 10, at home with family.

Bruce was born on Nov. 7, 1941, in Gardiner, the son of Norman and Grace Cater. He was a purchasing agent for Gardiner and Bass Shoe Companies for many years. He owned and operated Cater’s Market and Central Maine Sporting Goods in West Gardiner, as well as Neighborhood Redemption Center in Augusta.

Bruce loved sports and rarely missed a Gardiner High School football game. He was always a gentleman and a loving father, and he was always there for others. He will be missed.

He is survived by his fiancee, Jane Campbell and her children, John Jr. and wife, Susan, and James Campbell and wife, Tina; his sister, Norma and husband, Darrell Porter; his children, Mark Cater, Scott Cater and wife, Cecilia, Debbie and husband, Richard Paradis, and Greg Cater and fiancee, Jennifer Armstrong; grandchildren, Mark and Todd Rolfe, Seth and Drew Cater, Allison Allen, Nicole Cater, Kayla Cater, Jacob Cater, Amelia Cater, John Paradis, Jennifer Paradis, Alecia Paradis and Autumn Quirion and husband, Shane Cater; nieces and nephews, Patricia and Kenneth Carlson and Melissa and Dan Smart; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kathryn Carlson and husband, An-Mezeer, and KC Carlson and wife, Meagan; and longtime friends, Jin and Mandy Palmer.
