BATH — Bath police say suicide is the likely cause of death of a woman whose body was found early Sunday morning in the Kennebec River.

Police went at approximately 5:30 a.m. to the south end boat launch on Washington Street for a report that someone had discovered a dead body, Bath police Lt. Robert Savary said in a release.

Investigators identified the woman as a Bath resident. Police have not released her name pending notification of the family, according to Savary.

Police collected evidence at the woman’s home that indicates that she died from suicide. Savary said police do not suspect foul play. The woman’s body will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office.
