DIXFIELD — The Maine Department of Transportation will be holding a public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Ludden Memorial Library to discuss proposed highway improvements to Routes 2 and 17.

The construction would stretch from the beginning of Hall Hill Road and extend easterly for 2.8 miles to 0.55 of a mile easterly of Canton Point Road, according to Project Manager Paul MacDonald.

MacDonald said Monday morning that the project is still in the preliminary stages, though the cost would “probably be somewhere in the $5 million range.”

MacDonald later added that MDOT would likely begin advertising for the project in the spring of 2015 and begin work on it during the summer of 2015, with the intention of completing the project by autumn.

“We’re planning on this being a one-year, one-season project, but we’re still in the preliminary stages of it all,” MacDonald said. “We need to do the public meeting and see where we’re at afterward.”

The proposed highway improvements are the latest in a series of projects designed to fix sections of Route 2.

In May 2011, the town began work on the construction of the $2.8 million Webb River Bridge which was completed in the fall of 2012. Highway resurfacing work estimated at $344,000 began in June on less than a mile of Route 2 in Dixfield from the intersection of High Street to the intersection of Hall Hill Road and Main Street.
