AUGUSTA (AP) — There are small businesses. Then there are micro-businesses. And Maine Gov. Paul LePage is using his weekly radio address to talk about the need to give them a boost.

LePage said Saturday that Maine has about 130,000 micro-businesses that employ 170,000 people. Most employ just one or two people but he says they have “a big impact on families and our economy.”

He says his administration is working to help on issues like access to capital and the availability of broadband Internet. He said he’s also working with the Finance Authority of Maine to improve access to start-up funding.

LePage says the state also has a Business Answers Hotline within the Department of Economic and Community Development, as well as the Maine Small Business Development Centers to assist.
