TOPSHAM — The Maine Breast Health Cooperative honors one volunteer, advocate, professional or group effort that has contributed to breast health or the fight against breast cancer on the community, state and/or national level.

Nominees may be advocates, educators, leaders, role models, promoters of breast health or promoters of women’s issues. Professionals should be nominated for efforts that go above and beyond the scopes of their jobs. Groups may be businesses, clubs, families or others who work together to make a difference.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 Breast Health Leadership Awards. This year’s winners will be honored at the 16th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month Award Tea on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Hall of Flags in the State House.

Nominees must be Maine residents. Visit www.cancer.org/mainebreastcanceraward to download a nomination form. Nominations must be postmarked by Friday, Aug. 23, and mailed to Terry Baker, American Cancer Society, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.

Recipient of the 2012 award was Carlene Sperry, a 10-year breast cancer survivor from Auburn. Each nominee was recognized by their peers for outstanding leadership in advocating for the breast cancer needs of Maine women.
