Maine is showing a steady development in its shoe manufacturing interests, and this is particularly evident in Auburn, which today is providing quite a variety of footwear. It is the birthplace and home of the canvas shoe, and there is more truth than fiction in the oft-repeated statement that “the world goes to Auburn for its canvas footwear.” The two largest factories in the city specialize in all kinds of canvas footwear for men’s, women’s, boys’, youths’, misses’, and children’s shoes. One factory produces a line of men’s welts; two factories specialize on meritorious lines of comfort shoes for men and women; while one factory sends its entire output of men’s medium-priced shoes to the wholesale trade.

Sale of property for the construction of a modern drive-in eating establishment opposite the Northwood Park Shopping Center on Main Street, Lewiston, was announced last night by Charles Levin, a Lewiston realtor specializing in commercial and industrial transactions. A Dari-Delight Inc. store featuring a unique building design will open at the site in the near future. Dari-Delight is a nationally-known chain with more than 700 stores throughout the country. The corporation is a division of Good Humor of California. Quick foods, such as hamburgers and French fries, as well as soft-serve ice milk products including cones, sundaes and frappes will be served.

Central Maine Community Health Corporation paid tribute to some 150 older volunteers at a banquet held recently for members of the Retired Senior Volunteers Program of Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties.
