LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen will discuss on Monday, Aug. 5 how they want to proceed with a two-time failed administration article for the town. They need to bring the article back before voters in some manner.
Voters rejected the proposed $197,861 budget for administration in a 32-36 vote at a special town meeting on July 22. It also failed on June 11 at the polls.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office.
Town Manager Kristal Flagg said she will also ask selectmen how they want her to proceed to hire a consultant to investigate whether a municipal tax-increment financing program would be beneficial to the town.
Residents voted to approve withdrawing up to $15,000 from the undesignated fund to hire a consultant. The TIF would be based on an additional $17 million in valuation from the upgrade of Central Maine Power Co.’s substation on Moose Hill Road. The company would not benefit from the TIF, but the town could capture some tax dollars to pay for infrastructure improvements related to economic development in the town, Flagg previously said.
Flagg also plans to update the board on what she has found out about in regards to a proposed change from Androscoggin County to Franklin County. Voters in June approved the town studying the proposal to see if it would be feasible. The Legislature also approved in June allowing the town voters to vote on the proposed change. If it passes there, it then moves on to voters in Androscoggin and Franklin counties.
Flagg also plans to inform selectmen on a promotion to lieutenant within the Police Department to replace Lt. Thomas Gould, who took a job as Fairfield police chief in July. There is also a new hire in the Public Works Department to replace Warren Smith, who transferred to the Sewer Department.
She will also discuss with the board some repairs that need to be done at a pump station for the Sewer Department and at the Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant.
